This hour-long, family-friendly workshop with novelist Rebecca Smith will help you to capture memories and write new stories inspired by objects. There will be a huge variety of objects and images to inspire you, or you can bring a photograph or memento from home to use.
Lots of writers begin by writing autobiographically and many of the best novels, poems and scripts draw on authors' memories and experiences. Through a series of short, fun writing exercises you'll gain confidence in your writing. You might just surprise yourself. There will be no pressure to share your work if you don't want to. Writing materials will be supplied. This event is suitable for writers whatever their level of experience and whatever they are interested in writing, be that fiction, memoir, poetry or something else.
Rebecca Smith is a principal teaching fellow in English and Creative Writing at the University of Southampton. She is the author of nine books including The Ash Museum (Legend Press, 2012) which draws upon 100 years of family letters, photographs and memories.
