Join the youth-led group Guardians of the River Itchen for a unique creative workshop transforming environmental concern into artistic expression.
Together, you will collectively create a cacophonic love letter to the River Itchen - a powerful, multi-voiced tribute to this vital waterway running through our community.
The River Itchen faces mounting pressures from pollution and climate emergency. This workshop provides space to learn about the beings living in the river and current threats it faces, before channeling your emotions about these environmental challenges into meaningful creative work.
Visual artist Gemma Gore will hold the space as participants explore various artistic mediums to express their relationship with the river - from anger and grief about its declining ecological health to hope and determination for its future. The "cacophonic" nature of our love letter embraces all voices and emotions, creating a rich tapestry of responses reflecting the complexity of our environmental moment.
No prior artistic experience necessary and is appropriate for all ages (children need to be accompanied by an adult) - just bring your passion for the river and willingness to collaborate. Through this collective creative process, we'll strengthen our community's connection to this precious waterway and commitment to its protection.
Please note: wear 'messy' clothing you don't mind getting art materials on.
